Tasting - Yalumba Chardonney

Name: Yalumba Y Series Chardonney
Variety: Chardonnay
Region: South Australia
Country: Australia
Year: 2017
Price: $17 online, $35 in the restaurant

Wine Critic Review: (From winemag.com) “A little stalky and stinky at first sniff, but beneath that lies the fruit: pineapple and peach with white pepper and butter. Medium bodied with a slippery texture and some citrus and cream notes, none of the funk shows on the palate, it's all just bit characterless. In an ocean of Chardonnays, there are better out there even at this affordable price point.”

My Review: I took my girlfriend Chandler out to dinner to eat and try a bottle of wine.

She is a big fan of the fact that I am taking this class. I tried to go to an Italian restaurant but it was closed, so to the Thai place we went! We had some of the wine before our food, as well as during the meal. At first the wine was sweet and peachy, and very light in the mouth. As the drinking continued, it seemed to get sweeter with a little more pronounced citrus scent. The whole time it seemed a bit disconnected from the food. I am not sure if it wasn’t paired well, or if it just seemed separate in general. But either way, I liked this wine as far as whites go. It was a touch over priced, but that is what comes with drinking a bottle in a restaurant. I would not have paid $35 in a store, and I feel like I could have picked a better-tasting wine for $17 in a store.
